With decades of recruiting & interview preparation experience it's our observation that often a qualified candidate will interview for a position without proper preparation, sometimes without preparing at all.  Career satisfaction is a key contributor towards our attitudes and livelihoods, and poor preparation is why qualified candidates get passed on for great opportunities that could increase their quality of life.  We relate career readiness to athletics, just like athletes practice before a game CBC members prepare considerably prior to all interviews. To relate our philosophy to a quote widely attributed to Benjamin Franklin "by failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail".

          For 15 years, Greg Hoyle (Founder of Career Brand Coach) has partnered with hiring managers and leaders looking to grow their organization with top talent. By tracking what Greg refers to as a "batting average," he has realized that candidates need subject matter experts to help them with their career search (whether it's landing an initial interview or negotiating an offer).  Like a PhD scientist can have an area of specialization like molecular biology, Greg and the CBC team's area of expertise is within the interview process. Not only recent graduates or those pursuing their first career opportunity benefit from "having a higher batting average" when applying and interviewing; those 7 or 15 years into their career need to know their shortcomings when interviewing too!  Collaborating with experts on how to land/win an interview needs to be a priority, and the passive posting of a resume or applying to a posting must be re-strategized for those who want to develop their professional brand. 

​        Career Branding operates the same as an athlete practicing before a game.  While the athlete wants to succeed in the game or meet, candidates want to land an offer after our interview. We make the time for things like exercise, eating well, and getting adequate sleep. Negatively impacting those aspects of health and wellness is career dissatisfaction. Having analyzed the data set from the past four years of interviews scheduled by his recruiting firm GTS Scientific, Greg signals a lack of preparation by candidates who don't receive their desired outcome, the offer. Regardless of tenure/years of experience candidates should be trying to "up their batting average," which is Greg's way of saying to increase your % chance on getting an offer so they choose between offers instead of taking the only one on the table.

         How Our Coaching Works

       Our approach emphasizes a strong resume and the ability to highlight pertinent experience (it matters equally what is on your resume and how you speak about it). Did you have a great internship with a leader in your field? Are you excellent at certain technique used within your lab?  Great, know how to talk about it.!

       Furthermore, we push our job seekers to be active (while automated job alerts are great, we focus on how to increase the odds of getting the actual interview and offer, not just submitting an application).  Career satisfaction is an essential aspect of health and wellness.  Many employees report being dissatisfied with their job/career, and spending 40-60 hours within that role on a weekly basis surely impacts quality of life, health, and wellness.
